So what happens when you have two college girls home unexpectedly from sudden moves from their college dorms, cancelled summer travel and internships, an empty building, a challenge and Covid-19? You guessed it! A Tea Bar!
You’re asking yourself “what?” and we get it, but yes that’s what we got, a simply adorable, fully green, perfectly cool concept, some fun lawn games and a Tea Bar....Welcome to Spill the Tea: A Tea Bar & Gathering Place. Created, Owned and Operated by Madison Fitts & Talia Anzivino, two unlikely business partners brought together by a partnership between their parents and a very random opportunity in the midst of a international health crisis.
Here was the challenge: Come up with a Start Up Business, get it off the ground within a few months, fit your business into one tiny space, work with a tiny budget, the business has to be fully green & single use plastic free zone, oh and you Maddie & Talia, have to work together, meet your new business partner!
In some ways you can say Maddie and Talia have grown up together, just a year apart, same town, same school, many of the same friends when life dealt them both a disruptive blow; divorces and family changes hard for any teen put both their lives into a temporary tailspin. Classmates and distant friends now had to adjust to being connected through a “blended fam” neither of which asked for or wanted. We could even say they “resisted” which doesn’t quite capture it all but 5 years later here we are and they have taken that challenge from two months ago, ran with that opportunity and seized a never seen before state quarantine and built something awesome. So to say beauty is born from chaos, THIS Tea Bar proves just that. To say this has been a blended family affair and labor of love is an understatement.
It’s amazing what a little elbow grease, lots of paint and sandpaper and two (or upwards of ten) displaced college kids can amount to.
Madison (Maddie) is a Junior at Brown University majoring in Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations and has dreams of being a CEO someday.
Talia (Tal) is a Sophomore at the University of New Hampshire majoring in Health Sciences with hopes of becoming a Physical Therapist and having her own practice. Samantha (Sam) Petrarca also a sophomore at the University of New Hampshire has become an unofficial third partner throughout this adventure and nobody would say the challenge could’ve been met without her help and support every step of the way and hands on literally with every painted chair!
Spill the Tea is a quaint little spot that’s nestled within Thrive Collaborative of East Greenwich. While Thrive has been around for many years in the heart of East Greenwich as a Mental Health Collaborative, it’s recently relocated to it’s new location 4372 Post Road and has expanded to encompass many more comprehensive therapies to enhance Whole Life Wellness through Mind, Body & Learning. The original concept was to offer a small cafe for practitioners and clinicians within the collaborative but it’s grown to be something that will likely become a community treasure and favorite gathering place for locals.
When we say this little spot has something special brewing (or steeping), you simply just have to come in to visit and you will totally understand. With our “green” spirit in mind and milking our tiny budget, we are fully equipped and furnished with things renewed, reused, restored or repurposed. Everything from fruit infused teas to home grown herbs and local honey, you will leave on a cuteness overload with a hot or iced tea in hand to quench your thirst. Not to worry coffee lovers, we will have a brew on demand for you too! Come visit, spill some tea with Maddie & Tal and hang out awhile, we can’t wait to meet you!
